Episode #7: Laura Riness, Ebony Girl in an Ivory World

Laura Riness is a transracial adoptee from Minnesota.  She grew up on her family’s farm along with three Korean-born siblings and four Caucasian siblings.  She has a Bachelor of Science in Human Development, Child and Family Studies from South Dakota State University and a Master of Science Degree in Counseling & Student Personnel from Minnesota State University, Mankato and is currently working on her doctorate degree.  In this episode, Laura shares her thoughts, memories, and reflections of being adopted into a Caucasian home and community as an infant.  Laura is one of the main session speakers as the Voice of the Adoptee at the upcoming Joy for the Journey Retreat.

Episode #3: An Interview with Laurie Cuchens, Retreat Presenter

Laurie Cuchens is an adoptive mom of five ranging in age from 2 years to 16 years old.  She has her bachelor’s degree in Child Development and Family Studies and works part-time as a Preschool teacher.  She and her husband live in Dallas, Texas and often speak at their adoption agency’s potential adoptive parent training on behalf of Transracial Adoption.  They have welcomed their children home via domestic infant adoption, open adoption, and older child adoption through the Foster Care System.  Laurie’s cherished hobby is planning and hosting birthday parties for her children.
