Children who have joined their families after experiencing institutionalization, abuse, neglect or other trauma face some specific challenges. This session will give an overview of Reactive Attachment Disorder and explore the impact of attachment disruptions on brain development. You will discover ways to build, nurture, and repair a healthy and secure attachment for children who have had a difficult start and will explore how to create a therapeutic environment at home.
Learn how to integrate your adopted child into your homeschooling family. This workshop will help you develop a plan to meet the emotional and academic needs of your new family member(s) and will address common issues homeschooling families face when they adopt such as homeschooling multiple children, teaching ESL, and discipling the heart. There will be time for Q&A during this session.
Lifebooks do more that just chronicle a child’s life in foster care. It can be used as a tool to help them grieve losses, rebuild relationships, and develop the ability to move ahead. It answers important questions for them like why they are in foster care. It gives them a sense of belonging and a sense of ownership. It is the one thing they can take with them wherever they go. In this session, you’ll learn what is a lifebook, why lifebooks are important and how to create one.
